Windows Media Center Gadgets for Windows SideShow Released

The Windows SideShow Team has announced that the final version of the Windows Media Center Gadgets for Windows SideShow is now available for download on Windows Live Gallery in 32-bit and 64-bit flavors!

Download: Windows Media Center Gadgets for Windows SideShow (64-bit)

The Windows Media Center Gadgets for Windows SideShow package is made up of the following 4 Gadgets for your Windows SideShow device:

  • Now Playing: View what is currently playing in Windows Media Center (includes playback controls)
  • Pictures + Video: Browse your Photos and Videos folders
  • Music: Browse your Music folder and play any song
  • TV: Look at what is on TV via the Windows Media Center Guide, Schedule Recordings, and View Recordings (in a Thumbnail view)

If you are a heavy Windows Media Center user and have a Windows SideShow device – these gadgets are a must-have. My main desktop PC is a Dell XPS 420 which comes with a built-in Windows SideShow display on the top of the system. It is great being able to walk up to the system to check and schedule TV recordings especially if I’m in a hurry and don’t want to sit down at my desk and fire up Windows Media Center. Quick access is awesome.

    It's too bad that it doesn't support my touch screen that's inside my HTPC.  This would be the perfect piece of software for that screen, but as it is now, it's just an expensive piece of unused hardware.

    Now if I had ever seen anyone, ever at any time with a sideshow device outside of a Microsoft promotional video.

    I would not even have the first clue where to buy a sideshow device, and trust me, that is definitely not a good sign for the whole "sideshow" concept.

    It doesNOT work with Vista Home Basic, WHY.I CAN NOT AFFORD TO INCREASE MY GB (because I only receive a Very Low Disability Pension) will Microsoft pay for it, nearly all NEW Downloads for Vista will NOT work with / on my computer. Ihave asked youfor HELP many times before because the Outlook Express and the Internet Explorer are NOT working and the registry fixes (3) Microsoft reccomanded (which I paid about £37.00p for) have made NO difference, my computer now is very very SLOW, and like I have already said I can NOT afford to have it seento or buy a NEW Microsoft / Dell Vista Home Basic Computer, this one is ONLY 10 months old, Yours in Severe Annoyances; apophis1 (Dr.Stephen James Hulme).

    Hi,

    This is a great idea for controlling Vista Media Center.

    Unfortunately though it doesn't seem to work with my new HTC Touch HD device without getting an unexpected error in windows sideshow.exe which forces the sideshow application to close whenever a large list is displayed e.g when you go to the music library or try to look at the recorded TV library.

    It isn't clear to me if the error is with the side show gadget or the sideshow application for windows mobile devices.

    It works perfectly on my HTC Kaiser device though and is a great feature.

    Its a shame that it doesn't work on the HTC Touch HD though as it would be a perfect complement its large screen for a touch sensitive remote control.

    Hello everybody,

    I also recieve the IndexOutOfRangeException on every "List" page in every Gadget. Here are the first few StackFrames of the stacktrace:

    Microsoft.AuxiliaryDisplay.Shel.VirtualListBox.VirtualListBox_paint()

    System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnPaint()

    System.Windows.Forms.Control.WnPRoc()

    System.Windows.Forms.Control._InternalWnProc()

    ....

    I'm using Windows 7 RC german. My Phone is a HTC Touch HD with WinMobile 6.1 Pro. Current used gadets are MediaCenter-Gadget 32bit (RTM) and Twitter-Gadget.

    Please provide any support to fix this issue.
