Bad iTunes 8 Driver May Cause Issues

Earlier this week, Apple released iTunes 8 which included some headaches for Windows Vista users (including myself) in the way of blue screens of death. My good friend Ed Bott dug into the situation and discovered what might be causing the issue - it appears to be a problem with a driver that is installed when users also install iTunes 8. Unfortunately iTunes is known for pushing out components that Windows users don't necessarily want.

Fortunately, not all is lost. Due to the uproar from unsatisfied customers, Apple issued an updated version of iTunes 8 that fixes the problem (sort of).  You'll need to uninstall the broken version of ITunes 8 and Apple Mobile Devices support, and then use your Apple Software Updater to reinstall iTunes 8 and get it working the right way.

Anyways you might be asking why I even installed iTunes in the first place and it's because I am a software fiend and love playing with new software regardless of who it's by. But just so you know - I'm a diehard Zune user myself ;-)

I must say that I love my Mac and I love OSX, but I also like Windows XP/Vista.  I do get the feeling that Apple is lately not what it used to be : not enough testing, quietly installing extra programs without notifying the users, ...

Wasn't it Apple that said something about being stable, not crashing, ...

Where are you now Apple?  You crashed my pc.

There are a lot of exciting new features in the Zune 3.0 Fall Update and isn't the new Blue Zune a beauty!  http://www.zunerama.com/2008/09/first-pic-of-blue-zune-8gb/

Quote: "I must say that I love my Mac and I love OSX, but I also like Windows XP/Vista."

Looks a more honest explanation of why someone would ever install iTunes on Vista.

I love my iPod and I'm not afraid to state that ;)

    [Almost off topic: ON]

Maybe I could also like the Zune, whenever MS decide to sell it in Europe. But probably MS think that we aren't worthy enough.

Yes I know that (quote) "Zune will debut in Europe Fall 2009, along with the release of the third generation Zune", but this has been said already for the 2007 and, however, isn't the new Zune the third generation?

    [Almost off topic: OFF]

Corrine, I am in total love with the new shiney blue Zune unfortunately its only on the Zune 8 and I already have a Zune 8. I need to find a reason to get the blue one LOL. BTW thanks for the link! I covered the new Zune 3.0 features earlier this week and am very excited.

sciamannikoo, I totally hear you about the Zune availability. I really want my international friends to get their hands on it. I'm sure the Zune Team is working on making that happen. Once anything is announced you can expect me to post about it!

Well that's too bad, I just hope my younger sister won't install the new iTunes on her laptop, she have an iPod, but I still want to have a Zune someday. I think it's best to stay with the PC stuff if you have a PC, it's usually not a good idea to mix two worlds together in PC hardware. People think the iPod is the best, but it's juste because it's popular and we have dozen of other MP3 players that are just as good or better in some cases.

Well, can't wait for the Zune 3.0 software release. Hope it will be bundle with Windows 7 as a feature, it would be cool.

    @ sciamannikoo

I would have thought that the new Zune hardare is more like a continuation of the current 2nd generation instead of being a new one. Where as the software is 3rd gen.

But I completely agree that the Zune needs to be launched in more countrys (esp UK ;)).

Hi, i have a little question about Windows Vista.

It is not so connects to this topic, so sorry in advance.

I'm looking for a feature that can enable me doing swap while copy/paste.

It is a VERY useful feature and i'm sure many people need it and will be very glad to use it.

If i want to swap between two text areas i want to do the following:

    1. Copy the first text (Ctrl-C)

    2. Select the second text

    3. Do Swap (let's say Ctrl-B) so that the Clipboard and the selected second text will be swapped.

    4. then i just paste the text on first text (Ctrl-V)

this is instead of paste the first text near the second (so i would not erase it) and cut the second text, etc..

which is take more of my time..:)

I think it is a VERY basic feature that should come with windows, and it is very strange to me that no one from the Windows Team developers didn't think of implementing it.

If there is such a feature i taking my words back, and i will be glad to know how to use it.

Hope to get some respone from the windows team.

If you think that there is more appropriate place to post this question so that it will get to the right people please let me know.

    Thank you very much :)

Although I'm no great fan of iTunes, at least Apple are being reactive enough to update it between major versions, unlike Windows Media Player, which is left in a buggy Zuneless gray limbo.
