Welcome to The Windows Blog

Watch NBC’s coverage of the Beijing Olympics in Windows Media Center

NBC is further expanding its coverage of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games with an Internet-delivered catch-up TV service powered by TVTonic on Windows Media Center on PCs running Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate! With NBC Olympics On The Go and Windows Media Center, you will be able to create a customized channel lineup of your favorite events for automatic download to your PC. Download NBC coverage of the Games overnight, and take them with you to watch online or offline in up to HD quality.

In Windows Media Center on PCs running either Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate, you'll find a new graphic under "Online Media" called NBC Olympics. Click on "Install Now" to install the NBC Olympics service for Windows Media Center.

When I went to install, I was given two options: Easy Install and Full Install. The Easy Install requires no keyboard or mouse and sets everything up for you to begin watching content. However, more advanced users (and users with plenty of bandwidth) can choose to do a more comprehensive Full Install. As you could have predicted, I ended up choosing the Full Install.

The Olympics begin August 8th, and video will become available in NBC Olympics On The Go on that day. Click here to find more about this service.

NOTE: If you don't see NBC Olympics under Online Media in Windows Media Center on your PC - not to worry! It should appear very soon.

Alas!  It doesn't work on 64-bit.  I was really looking forward to this, c'est la vie.  Gotta do things the hard way haha.

So...can we download this now? Or not until August 8th? You (and the windows website) give the appearance that you can install now! But when I go to windows media center (and I have 32 bit home premium) there is nothing new there :-\

sag969, as stated at the bottom of the above post - if you do not see NBC Olympics listed under Online Media currently, then please be patient as it should show up soon. Once it shows up in Windows Media Center you will then be able to install it. Thanks!

dovella, this is currently supported for U.S. users only at this time.

tigerhawkvok, I may have some news on the 64-bit front in the future so stay tuned.

    Thanks all!

I love various parts of wmC (windows media center)  but I absolutely hate portions such as showcase. and etc.

I would to be able to eliminate most of the showcase because most of it is trialware and is not worth my time to even look at.

Some are cool, but require subscription to continue past trial period and most of them are not even VISTA 64 capable.

Good example is Keytronic (tv tonic) wont even have a 64 bit version till maybe late this year or next.

Also, since I rarely watch sports on TV, would love to even eliminate that highlevel menu item.

For me the alternatives to WMC are more configurable..

These extra  tiles/icons are a lot of clutter.

I understand its possible to add to even these areas (not just programs)...

Also, would love to see a 'certified for Vista 64'  ...and not just 'certifided for vist'.
