New Version of Windows Live for Windows Mobile Available

Today the Windows Live for Windows Mobile Team posted that new bits are now available for everyone to download for their Windows Mobile phones.

Wait no more! The latest bits for Windows Live Client for your Windows Mobile are available for download. To get yours now, point your mobile browser to http://wl.windowsmobile.com

If you have Windows Live already installed on your device, you will need to uninstall it first. To do that, go to Settings->Remove Programs, select Windows Live entry from the list (if any) and click Remove. If you don’t find Windows Live on the list, then you are good to go.

With Windows Live client you will be able to:

  • Synchronize Live contacts with your contacts on the device
  • Synchronize your Live email (msn, hotmail, live)
  • View graphics, web links and contact photos in emails
  • Respond to emails with voice recordings
  • Upload photos to your Windows Live Spaces

Go ahead, give it a try and let us know what you think!

As soon as I heard, I installed it quickly on my Samsung Blackjack 2. I simply cannot live without Windows Live for Windows Mobile on my phone. Windows Live for Windows Mobile allows me to sync (and when I say "sync" I really do mean *sync*) my Windows Live Hotmail mailbox to my phone as well as all my Windows Live Contacts. I can read a message on my desktop PC at home using Windows Live Mail and that same exact message I just read syncs to Windows Live Hotmail and then to my phone using Windows Live for Windows Mobile - including the fact it is now marked read as I had read it on my PC. I have the same email experience (emails read or unread, emails filtered into certain folders, etc) across multiple PCs using Windows Live Mail, on my phone with Windows Live for Windows Mobile, and on the web with Windows Live Hotmail.

I previously blogged about Windows Live for Windows Mobile (in a little bit more detail) a few weeks ago when the first set of bits went live.

ALSO: if you're interested, try out the Beta of the new Windows Live Mobile Homepage at mhome.live.com on your mobile device!  I've got this page set up as my Home Page in Internet Explorer on my Blackjack 2.

    Cool!!!

For some odd reason, I am in the Windows Live for Windows Mobile beta, but the client completely stopped working.  This is great, but there isn't any Windows Live Messenger :(.  That was a great part of the client.  I wish Microsoft would offer it seperate along with this client also.

Hi Brandon - My first problem is with uninstalling Windows Live which is there in my mobile. When I bought my Touch Cruise, Windows Live was installed by default. I am not able to uninstall it anymoe. Tried many ways, but the Remove Programs or WMDC Remove Programs don't show Windows Live as installed. Any suggestions?

And also, the version I have was making my mobile slower and as soon as I stopped Windows Live, my mobile is now really fast. The Contacts without Live Contacts sync works fast browsing the contacts. Have to test the new version atleast for this reason.

Regarding Contacts - Windows Live initially asked me whether to sync Live Contacts and I chose Yes. And after that I was not able to choose not to sync them :(. I had to switch account to remove all my Live Contacts. Providing a way to sync/un-sync would be really helpful.

    Thanks

This new version also does not have the options to un-sync contacts once they are synced unless you switch Live Id account - here is a screenshot - http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d74/chaks_2k/sshot000-1.jpg

You can see the options are disabled :(

I love Windows Live for Windows Mobile.  But why no Messenger? you guys just released a Messenger client for Blackberry, so what gives?  The loyal Windows Mobile users should get an updated messenger client before the Crackberry crowd, come on!

I love this app, but it really needs to sync with my hotmail calendar.  That would finally let me say good-bye to Outlook.  Additionally allowing the linked accounts or multiple account like the desktop version would be great.

Brandon, this post has explained pretty much the problem with the new Windows Live - http://www.geekzone.co.nz/freitasm/5476

I think many users will be happy if Windows Live was released with Windows Live Messenger. I dont know why its needs to be got from OEM. Is there any specific reason?

chakkaradeep, I totally understand folks frustrations here. Unfortunately I do not have any specific reason why Messenger is not included outside of the answer I gave in a previous blog post on Windows Live for Windows:

    http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsexperience/archive/2008/05/14/put-windows-live-on-your-windows-mobile-phone.aspx

Let me repeat the answer here:

We've chosen to do this (not include Messenger) to support carrier's plans for IM services for their phones. If there is no IM client on your phone, you can try our browser based version of Windows Live Messenger to chat with friends or ask your carrier about IM options for your phone.

Now - you had Windows Live for Windows Mobile on your phone previously which included Messenger (as it came with your phone) and when you installed the new bits Messenger disappeared. Am I correct?

    Thanks,

    Brandon

Yeah, that happened to me too :(.

Brandon, Yes. I had the Windows Live Messenger OEM with me and it disappeared after installing the new version of Windows Live.
