Unboxing Logitech’s Cordless Desktop S 510

A couple of days ago, my old wireless desktop set (mouse and keyboard) had its receiver die on me. So I had to go out and grab another wireless desktop set for my PC. Microsoft offers some great wireless desktop sets but I decided to go with Logitech's Cordless Desktop S 510.

The Logitech Cordless Desktop S 510 is Certified for Windows Vista and has some great features:

  • Fast 27 MHz wireless performance.
  • Programmable F-Keys that can be set to open favorite applications, websites, or files.
  • One-Touch Controls that let you access music, video, volume, email, and the Internet.
  • Power Management lets you go longer with a low-battery light and auto-off.
  • Tilt Wheel plus Zoom allows you to go side to side or in and out on photos, websites or even spreadsheets.

I took some Unboxing shots to share.

The S 510 still wrapped in plastic

The design of the keyboard is light, thin and simple which is really great.

I see a lot of keyboards with their One-Touch Controls on the top of the keyboard - the S 510 keyboard has the One-Touch Controls on the sides. Volume (music) controls are on the right and on the left is the zoom, internet and sleep/hibernate controls.

The mouse is pretty basic but has the great Tilt Wheel plus Zoom feature that lets me scroll side-to-side instead of just up and down. This is really useful. The Wireless Receiver for the S 510 is made in semi-transparent plastic giving a really interesting effect as you can see inside to the circuit board.

Overall, I'm really happy with my decision to go with Logitech's Cordless Desktop S 510. Logitech also has a really neat website for their Certified for Windows Vista products worth checking out.

Nice! But this does not compare to the MS wireless keyboard and mouse with Vista-accelerator built right in!

I prefer keyboards and mice which don't have batteries to die on me when I'm gaming.  Wired all the way, and I don't intend on changing any time soon.

SteveBallmer, I am unsure of what a "Vista-accelerator" is.

The MAZZter, interesting perspective on preferring wired over wireless. I agree that sometimes dealing with deal batteries is a pain. I use rechargeable batteries though and always have charged batteries ready to go if a set dies. But as a gamer I can see having dead batteries in the middle of games as a bad situation.

I'll stick with my natural keyboard 4000.

At least until the next model comes out (providing they don't screwup the arrows and pg/pd/home/end etc keys again).

I'm not sure what they point of a wireless keyboard is.  The thing has never moved from my desk, and I have never had the urge either.

Likewise for my logitech trackball - and I do understand that there are wireless trackballs out there.  Again I gott ask why?!

Ok, I get wireless on mice - goodness knows I burned through enough cords back in the day (a mouse a month gets expensive fast), but the keyboard thing just baffles me.  Esp. the part about low battery power (and I see the wife have to deal with that ever time she forgets to charge her MX mouse..)

I have recently stopped using my MS wireless desktop set and switched to a TVSE wired keyboard. Wireless has major problems in terms of batteries and also the speed fo typing. The faster I typed, it missed out charachters, and the resultant emails were are spellcheck challange ...

I guess wireless keyboards/mouse should have

    1) a battery status indicator

    2) a way to plug in a wire and use as a wired one

    OR

    3) an alternate battery system where if one set of cells die, the backup can take up.

Sorry about letting the Vista-Accelerator thing slip out, the rest of you will find out about this little dodadd in several months. I can't tell you much more right now.

    i love microsoft's mice.

I just wish that someone with release a keyboard that doesn't have so many buttons that i would never use.  it end up making the keyboard uglier and bulkier than it needs to be.
