Windows 7 sales exceed Vista sales by 234%

It has been quite amazing to watch the global excitement build around Windows 7, especially during a tough economic climate. It was just a few short weeks ago that we learned about Windows 7 outselling the UK's "own" Harry Potter. In Japan, anxious PC users waited in line to be one of the first to get their hands on Windows 7. And just today, according to the NPD groups' weekly tracking service, Windows 7 software unit sales in the U.S. increased 234% over Windows Vista's first few days of sales.  "A combination of factors impacted Windows 7 PC sales at the outset, but the trajectory of overall PC sales is very strong leading into the holiday season," said Stephen Baker at NPD.

Magic.

That's well-deserved success. Awesome comparison with Harry Potter...haha!

Harry Potter? Is this not one of them  apples / oranges comparisons?

Anyhow.. I have upgraded and there's no going back! I evaluated the Beta and RC and I  am very happy with Windows 7 overall.

    R.I.P. Vista!

But the big question is how will it ever exceed the marketshare of Windows XP?

  5. Posted on: November 09, 2009 at 10:48PM

I pre-ordered win7 but am disappointed...no great shakes either way...

What was someone thinking by locking users into the new idiot start menu and not allowing one to at least have subfolders pinned to it?  This makes the start menu HARDER to use, not simpler.  Same with the hack for windows live messenger -- one has to make it run in compatibility mode so it will minimize to the system tray as it should!!!!!!

I bought a new Laptop specifically looked for one with windows 7 because of the great reviews.  Found that the most simple and useful feature of XP- Fast switch user account does not exist for Windows 7 starter version installed as default. How silly, I have loads of new features that I don't really need just wanted it to be faster and more reliable, and then they remove a really simple and obvious one. I guess that is try and extract more cash. Surprise surprise

Again Brandon, the anxiety of those Japanese folks and the notable absence of a current Harry Potter title are a little tricky to measure, would you not say?

If I were still working for the company I would be celebrating even a 10% improvement on Vista Sales.  Now that you have a (for now) stable OS, it's hardly accurate to make comparisons on Vista as though it were a success of itself.

    Your statements lack basic logic.
