What People Are Saying About Windows 7

Just moments ago, we launched a social media “hub” for Windows 7 on Windows.com in celebration of launch tomorrow. This hub is designed to highlight what our customers are saying about Windows 7. It does this by pulling content from all over the web (via tweets, blog posts, etc.) of people talking about Windows 7 and bringing it all to one central location so you can see what everyone is saying about Windows 7.

Social Media Hub on Windows.com

Note: To ensure the content and conversations we’re pulling from the web is relevant to Windows 7 (and of course appropriate), we moderate what gets put up there.

If you’re going to be tweeting (posting on Twitter) about Windows 7, I encourage you to use the following hashtags (if you don’t know what hashtags on Twitter are, click here):

  • #Win7: Use this in place of “Windows 7” or add to the end of any tweet about Windows 7.
  • #WinLive: Use this place of “Windows Live” or add to the end of any tweet about Windows Live.
  • #WinWin7: For our several fun giveaways we have going for our Twitter followers (US only, employees are not eligible), tweets tagged with #winwin7 relate to the contests. See Contest Rules here.
  • #win7tip: Use this in any tweet sharing a Windows 7 tip or trick.
  • #igotWin7: Use this tag to share once you get a copy of Windows 7.
  • #win7meetup: Use this tag when tweeting about the Launch Parties or Meetup initiatives.

We continue to look for ways to include our customers and highlight real conversations both during launch and long after GA. To learn more about how the social hub works check Marty Collins’ blog post here.

Love Windows 7, but I just checked the Anytime Upgrade option for Professional, and I'm quite upset.  The Anytime Upgrade option from Professional to Ultimate is $130 USD.  The retail price of the products differ by $20 USD.  What kind of insanity is that?  Why even bother setting up the infrastructure for the Anytime Upgrade option if you provide massive disincentives to cause people to NOT take advantage of it?

I have Vista Home Premium, but have been using the Windows 7 Evaluation Copy since it became available a few months ago (different partitions).

Will this final release upgrade my evaluation copy where I have several applications that I could activate one time only, or will it upgrade my Vista, where I will lose the use of those programs?

Hi egnlsn, thats an interesting question, I dont really know the answer since I havent run into that scenario.  My guess is that for an Upgrade install you would have a choice of partitions.

There is an unofficial way to upgrade from RC to Final Release of Windows 7.

    windows7news.com/.../upgrading-from-windows-7-rc-to-final

However since that is unofficial and not supported personally I would do an upgrade install over Windows Vista, if in doubt image your hard disc first, back up your registry and make sure you have the keys for the software installed on your computer written down.

Its a good idea to back up your files anyway prior to any upgrade to external media, at a minimum if space allows backup the files on both partitions to a tempoary folder on the other partition that way if you accidentally do a clean install (format followed by installing) on the wrong partition your covered.  Good Luck, yeah its a bit of work, but really its a good idea to back up once in a while anyway.

I know I should do it more often, these days I have 3 partions 1 for files, and the other 2 for my OS'es, which allows me to blast away an OS mess it up, and still have 1 backup OS to go back to files and all.

The Social hub is a great website, the real feedback really emphasises the overall positive response to Windows 7, I was suprised to see people mentioning theyre running it on their Macs.

The most interesting aspect is how the feedback tone changes based on the different media outlets.  Some more negative some more positive, yeah very interesting site.

I've gotta keep Vista for a few games that won't work on Windows 7, so I think I'll put this upgrade on my wife's computer.  Guess I'll just fork out the dough for the professional version when the time comes.  Thankfully, I've got a few months to go.

Everything other than applications is already on an external hard drive, so hopefully, everything will go smoothly.

When I try to laung Ie8  I see error message that Ie8 stopped working and needs to be shutted down. Another thing, Quick launch butons on my HP pavillion dv9 series are not working properly only every second works. hopefully HP will make new drivers shortly
