Check out the New Windows 7 Packaging

Simple, Clean and Easy To Open…

We approached the packaging for Windows 7 the same way we approached the product – by listening to what our customers told us they wanted: make it a simple clean design, easy to open, and reduce waste.

Windows 7 Home Premium Windows 7 Professional Windows 7 Ultimate

Simple Design

Customers told us they liked the big bold Windows logo and how it clearly communicates that it’s Windows 7. They like larger typefaces to make it easy to read. They also like the background colors for each edition that make it easier to differentiate between Windows 7 Home Premium all the way to Windows 7 Ultimate. In their own words, the “clean” design gives off a “fresh” feel.

Make It Easy To Open

We’ve reduced the number of elements in the package down to three: the plastic case, the paper sleeve, and a simple Getting Started Guide. The plastic case opens easily like a standard DVD case and it will have a single easy-to-remove seal at the top - and that’s it!

Opens like a book! Getting Started Guide Cover

Reduce Waste

The plastic case protecting the Windows 7 disk is lighter and is recyclable. The packaging itself has a 37% weight reduction and the econometrics score has improved by 50% over it’s predecessor.

Essentially, the packaging is what customers told us they were most interested in picking up to learn more about Windows 7. We hope you do the same.

Look for the new Windows 7 packaging to hit this fall!

Microsoft developer Andy Pennell will be thrilled.

"My first issue with Vista was getting the damn thing out of the box. After some cursing I discovered a red tag, so I pulled that: no change. After applying physical pressure to the box I began to see the bizarre way it opens, but it would only move a millimeter. I was seriously considering a trip to the garage and to smash the box open with a hammer, when I discovered another transparent sticker that was holding two parts together. With that gone, the box moved a few more millimeters, until I realised the thing opens sideways, and boom: Vista was opened. I've installed entire operating systems more quickly and with less stress than opening this box," he revealed.

Good to hear Microsoft is listening, I like!!!

After reading the articles, I hurriedly went to the microsoft site and preorderd my Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for $99 bucks! I then preceded to tell all my friends who, like me, shelled out $$$ for Windows Vista Ultimate... UH OH. Then I read that I HAVE to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate?! for what, Bitlocker (NEVER USED) and the ability to choose 35 languages...

Man, I never ever felt as violated as I do now. I cannot believe that I purchased Ultimate, but now I am getting the royal screw. My only option is to hopefully find a cheap copy of Vista Business on ebay. Thanks Microsoft. I just found it harder to stick up for your BS policies.

I surely thought Microsoft would have given the Vista Ultimate users a BIG break on a same version of Windows 7! Better yet FREE upgrade to a "like Version" of Windows 7. But at the "VERY minimum" a FREE upgrade to Windows 7 home premium!

This is really the "Ultimate" slap in the face to MS's loyal long time followers!!!

Come on Microsoft..... Smell the roses!!! Not just the "GREEN" taken from your LOYAL PAID USERS!!!!

this is fabulous and the pricing is right.  I can't wait to get my own and put it on my laptop and desktop.  The install is quick, but I am concerned about doing clean install once the final version is out.

doesnt it would be nice when you can switch between "gaming" and "normalmode" in windows 7?

i believe it would be a nice idea for optimize the performence.

it could work so that in the "gamingmode" all (for gaming) needless programms (e.g. anti-virus or desktop-gadgets) close automatically.

(im from germany so dont surprised of the grammar)^^
