Information Regarding Windows 7 in Europe

I’ve been getting some questions about yesterday’s news regarding how we will be shipping Windows 7 without Internet Explorer in Europe.

I want to encourage people who have any questions about this to read this post on the Microsoft on the Issues Blog. This post is pretty thorough in explaining our plans for Windows 7 in Europe.

The European Commission has also posted a statement which can be read here.

When 7 hits the shelves..what format will it be on?  With the boot option off of removable media one would stand to ask....

It is truly time for Microsoft to wake up and smell the "coffee" and try to fix things before RUSHING it out the door!

I will be honest here, I think that shipping the OS without a browser is a very foolish idea, I prefer the ballot screen idea better as it allows one to actually choose what browser they want to use. What Microsoft are doing now is going to lead to many unnecessary complications, By doing this Microsoft is essentially forcing internet explorer on those who already do not know about the alternative browsers, This will lead to user confusion. Microsoft I believe is trying to force the European People against the Union by creating an unnecessary problem.

IF the internet explorer was Standards compliment then I would have no problem with its deployment but as it stands this is not the case and as the browsing market currently stands with Microsoft holding majority browser share, web code is unnecessarily complicated, Sites are either coded twice (IE and Standards Compliant) or IE only, forcing many users to use IE even though the other browsers are more than capable of rendering the site if it was coded correctly.

IE is also among the only browsers that has a closed sourced rendering engine. Microsoft *could* open up the code allowing people to modify the code and suggest improvements, perhaps allowing the end users to build a hybrid browser combining a Firefox compatible extension system with the Chrome JavaScript engine.
