Test Updates Coming for the Windows 7 RC

Starting this Tuesday (May 12th) we will release up to ten test updates to PCs running the Windows 7 RC in order to verify our ability to deliver and manage updating of Windows 7 in certain real-life scenarios. These updates do not deliver any new features or fixes. This is the second set of test updates we’ve released to test the updating mechanism for Windows 7 - the first set were released on February 24. For more information, see this post on the Microsoft Update Blog.

No new features or fixes? Shame.

I can't say I'd mind it being updated to 7122 in order to fix that dxdiag error.

    But I'll be ready, though.

Please wait while Windows configures updates...I guess we'll see this for hours on Windows 7 SP1 as well. + No real slipstreaming ability=Deployment hell.

Thanks for the heads up, good idea to wait till next week in order to allow the maximum number of people time to download and try out the RC over the weekend.

The updates already work fine, why waste time doing tests. Give us some real updates for drivers.

Thanks for the heads up Brandon.

brandon...you guys are doing a awesome job..keep up the work...2 things..you need to extend the remote media experience feature into windows media center..i would to be able to access my remote media libraries though media center...second...how about expapding the remote media experience to allow us to keep other files, not just media files, shared across all our computers with the linked live id..create a snap-in or connector with windows explorer maybe?

It is good to always check on functionality such updates after a code refresh...

Don't mean to "hijack" but loopyoyo - What you are asking for is already possible using Windows Live Sync (http://sync.live.com) and in a different way using MS Live Mesh beta (https://www.mesh.com) - check them out to see the features. I use both. Sync for keeping specific content updated on multiple PCs like favs and pics and Mesh to remote desktop and sync folders.

ALERT! I'm seeing lots of people with this problem! Please fix this ASAP or many people won't be using Windows 7 RC at all.

I have an 8800GT with the latest Nvidia Drivers, using Windows 7 64-bit. I have a 20 inch widescreen LG Flatron L204WT using the VGA cable. It also has a DVI input, but it has never worked.

Windows 7 Beta 7000 had already compromised performance of the VGA connection from Windows XP, but now it is just unnacceptable.

I don't like the 1680x1050 resolution. Instead I use 1280x768 with Windows XP. I have to set the refresh rate to 75Hz to achive the perfect picture though. And there is no problem with this, because the monitor offically supports it.

Now Windows 7 Beta doesn't let me specify more than 60Hz, even after I install the LG "driver" files. This results in a less sharp image.

With the Release Candidate things got severly worse. I still can only get 59Hz or 60Hz, using the latest drivers from Nvidia and the monitor "driver" files from LG, but now I can only use the monitor at 1680x1050, and it always switches back to 59Hz.

If I select any other resoltuion, the monitor's image shrinks to the center of the screen. Pressing the Auto configuration button on the monitor has the effect of pushing the shrinked image to the left.

More, when I look and the OSD settings on the monitor, it tells me ALWAYS, whatever the resolution I have set up, that I'm at 1680x1050 at 60Hz. Windows 7 is definetly not communicating with the monitor properly.

This is a severe fault that, despite all the good things about Windows 7, will prevent me from using it. I'm reverting back to XP until this is solved.
