Windows 7 Release Candidate Update

There certainly has been a lot of discussion about Windows 7 in the last few weeks. A lot of folks want to know when they can get their hands on the official RC, when we are going to RTM, and what I had for breakfast.

I’m pleased to share that the RC is on track for April 30th for  download by MSDN and TechNet subscribers. Broader, public availability will begin on May 5th.

On behalf of everyone here, I would to thank all of our beta testers for helping us get to this point. You guys have been busy. At the peak of the feedback cycle, we were receiving a “Send Feedback” report every 15 seconds for an entire week. Since then, the engineering team has been busy analyzing the feedback, fixing bugs, and working hard to improve the overall experience. Many of your suggestions helped us refine the new and improved taskbar, the behavior of Aero Peek, Touch, Windows Media Player, and much more. In case you have missed the previous E7 blog entry outlining some of these changes in detail, you can read about them here and here.

Be sure to check back with us next week… And by the way, I had eggs for breakfast :-)

As a blind screen reader user, one thing which I really hope gets fixed involves the results of searches from the Edit box in the Start menu.  When arrowing down through the list of resulting files, there is no way that I can tell to find out the file size, date, what folder it is in, or any other properties.  This is maddening since one wouldn't search for it if they knew where it was located.  Please Please Please give us a way to see file properties for search results.  Now, in order to know where a file is, I have to open it, then do a save as, just to see where it would be saved as a clue to where it already is.  Thanks all.

I am currently dual booting Windows XP and Windows 7 Build 6801, and since I'm using the older build of the beta, I seem to be having some issues. I'm extremely anxious to have the RC build come out so I can get one step closer to having the full Windows 7 OS on my system.

i can't wait to see that

I love Windows 7 - Can't wait for it.  Would it be too much to ask to have the address bar in Windows Explorer look like that of XP?  Or at least a setting that can give me that behavior?

This is what I'm talking about:  blog.kellybrownsberger.com/.../39.aspx

If I had that, I do think I'd call Win7 near flawless

    HI Bradon:

I come from Taiwn and I'm  working for a NB OEM company.

May I ask you a question? We didn't find Windws TMM in windows7, will it release in RC version or change another name/function?

    Thanks for your help.

All, please stay tuned. We plan to talk more about the Windows 7 RC, including specifics like languages, soon.

kotalo0714, I'm not familiar with the term "TMM" - could you elaborate?

fuchueh, please submit your feedback through the Feedback tool in the Windows 7 Beta. That has been the proper way to submit feedback for Windows 7.
