Windows 7 Release Candidate Update

There certainly has been a lot of discussion about Windows 7 in the last few weeks. A lot of folks want to know when they can get their hands on the official RC, when we are going to RTM, and what I had for breakfast.

I’m pleased to share that the RC is on track for April 30th for  download by MSDN and TechNet subscribers. Broader, public availability will begin on May 5th.

On behalf of everyone here, I would to thank all of our beta testers for helping us get to this point. You guys have been busy. At the peak of the feedback cycle, we were receiving a “Send Feedback” report every 15 seconds for an entire week. Since then, the engineering team has been busy analyzing the feedback, fixing bugs, and working hard to improve the overall experience. Many of your suggestions helped us refine the new and improved taskbar, the behavior of Aero Peek, Touch, Windows Media Player, and much more. In case you have missed the previous E7 blog entry outlining some of these changes in detail, you can read about them here and here.

Be sure to check back with us next week… And by the way, I had eggs for breakfast :-)

This is critical bug Windows 7!

    @Bartez

yea, i also saw it yersterday, that seems to a critical issue, luckily the exploiter must use my PC physically, but with the time who knows, a Remote code may exploit da thing :O ......

and a i was wondering Brandon, Im really worried, How the hell do the Windows 7 copies get leaked ? and why arent they doing sothing about it ;!

I really like the look and feel of the new Windows 7 and if the RC1 improves on that even further GREAT! I still think that your Media Player and Media Centre need to support DTS Audio, I have used Power DVD 9 and it's just not as good as your product and to be quite honest i would prefer not to use third party software because not all of it measures up or is totally compatable, and with everything going over to Blueray it would be Great if Microsoft were ahead of the curve on this one! Please bring back the color palette behavior from the old Paint. Before Windows 7, clicking a color in the color palette changes "Color 1", right clicking a color changes "Color 2". One click to change either Color 1 or Color 2. Now with Windows 7's new Paint, it takes two clicks to change Color 2 - left clicking on Color 2, left clicking on the color. Very unintuitive.

Cool, cant wait for May 5th, hopefully the RC will be as great as the Beta.

The question then is when will the RC will expire, and when RTM will be available. lots of cool news, and more to come.

Everything's moving along faster than expected, knowing my luck the Windows 7 launch events will co-inside with my cross country move with the wife and kids in June/July. Who knows, I might be able to convince her to park the Uhaul in the middle of Iowa for a day... free muffins?

I'm an old, retired home user who has never before tried to use a beta program like this, and I want to say 'Thank You' to all of you who have made this possible, and made it fun. This has been a great experience, and I've learned a lot from it.

I look forward to the RC release, and like others have said here, I think Windows 7 is the best yet from Microsoft. I do wish the new O/S would keep that 'Send Feedback' link, though. I think that might be very useful. I know you get a lot of junk over it, but maybe a system like Google uses could help strain that out of the mix for you, and just save the relevant stuff..... ( just a thought, Folks...)

Thank You once again for making this available for us.

Hey - new to the Windows Blog - and techie enuff (UX designer), but NOT a developer or a previous beta-tester of Windows 7.  I've got a new macbook pro on order arriving next week and want to make it dual boot since I need both OS's for my work, and since I'd really like stop dragging two notebooks around.

By saying that this "RC" will be available to the general public - does that mean there will be some way for me to download and use it prior to the retail release?

    I'd love to skip Vista.

At last!!! Can't wait to get hold of RC1. Windows 7 is a great OS to come out of Microsoft after XP!!

Could you confirm languages supported for RC? Spanish included?

    Thanks

So much for the most closed locked down beta program ever for an operating system. Comes free with a magic wand which when waved casts a spell so strong on the user that he'll give up anything for a copy of the RTM code.
