Windows 7 Release Candidate Update

There certainly has been a lot of discussion about Windows 7 in the last few weeks. A lot of folks want to know when they can get their hands on the official RC, when we are going to RTM, and what I had for breakfast.

I’m pleased to share that the RC is on track for April 30th for  download by MSDN and TechNet subscribers. Broader, public availability will begin on May 5th.

On behalf of everyone here, I would to thank all of our beta testers for helping us get to this point. You guys have been busy. At the peak of the feedback cycle, we were receiving a “Send Feedback” report every 15 seconds for an entire week. Since then, the engineering team has been busy analyzing the feedback, fixing bugs, and working hard to improve the overall experience. Many of your suggestions helped us refine the new and improved taskbar, the behavior of Aero Peek, Touch, Windows Media Player, and much more. In case you have missed the previous E7 blog entry outlining some of these changes in detail, you can read about them here and here.

Be sure to check back with us next week… And by the way, I had eggs for breakfast :-)

I can't wait! :-) Windows 7 has to be the best version of Windows I have used so far.

I'm so happy to hear that the RC will be released to the public on May 5th! I was starting to get worried when I heard it might possibly be released the 5th for TechNet and MSDN subscribers, and even later for the general public. I loved the Beta, and can't wait to try out the RC.

"Be sure to check back with us next week… And by the way, I had eggs for breakfast :-)"

    lol.

    Brandon, Thanks for the update.

I'll be using it by April 30th cause I'm a MSDN subscriber.

Can anyone verify that this will have "out of the box" driver support for the HP touchsmart desktop computers?

They have been used to display the capabilities of Windows 7 beautifully do far. But due to OS checks on drivers from HP's website. getting a touchmart working with full graphics drivers is a long and tedious task.

I hope you enjoyed the eggs. I can not wait for the RC to come out, going to Walgreens to get a new three pack of blank DVD will be worth it. Will the download experence be like it was to download the beta (Your own manager) or will I be able to use downThemall on Firefox? Can not wait to use the ISO burner in 7 to burn 7, and it not to be illegal, but helpful.

    Thanks for the hard Work,

A Guy running Windows 7 Build 7000 on a four year old Dell notebook. (With Aero and Glass)

Great news!  Why it takes so long (as if a few days is a long time) still puzzles me, but great news nonetheless...

Hi, was unsure about the Release date, at last its on May 5th,

    Some questions :

1.Will there be a download limit for the RC ?

2.Whats the best way to install this, upgrade from 7000 bete or a clean install ?

3.and at the end of the RC how are we to do an upgrade, just needs clarification so that i wont end up with deleteing and reinstalling everything over and over again :)

thank you, the 7000 beta was awsom and waiting for the new featured 7s RC

^A clean install is the way to go.

Brandon: Receiving a “Send Feedback” report every 15 seconds is amazing, and just shows the enthusiasm for Windows 7. I bet MS also didnt expect this. I wonder how Aero Peek has been modified ...

I hope this version is now available in Spanish language ...

Thanks for the first credible, authoritative time-line, Brandon.

I can stop checking Technet and MSDN every 9 minutes. (When will be there, Mom? Are we there yet? Are we now? Are we?)

I remember the Vista RC days, back when you were posting on the Hive.

You've come a long way in that short time, and the quality of your posts shows it. Congratulations.
