Test Updates for Windows 7 Beta Users

Starting February 24, we will be releasing up to 5 test updates to PCs running the Windows 7 Beta (Build 7000) via Windows Update. These updates allow us to test and verify our ability to deliver and manage the updating of Windows 7. We typically verify servicing scenarios during a beta.

Windows 7 Beta users will be notified that new updates are available beginning February 24 through Windows Update. Even if the user has Windows Update configured for automatic update – these test updates will not install automatically. Users will need to manually install the test updates through Windows Update.

These updates do not deliver new features or bug fixes. The test updates simply replace system files with the same version of the file currently on the system.

For more information, please visit the Microsoft Update blog.

Again, thank you for helping test Windows 7. Your feedback is extremely valuable!

ok I played with windows 7 and I want to get the thing out of my computer. I WANT MY XP BACK!!! How do I get this crap back to xp?

Shawn...You can get your very old OS back by reinstalling. I sure hope you have your OEM disc still or maybe you have a install partition on your hard drive from the manufacturer for a reinstall.

Its recommended to install them so that it helps MS test various scenario's; as even if they are installed then Windows Update will remove the installation files 10 days after the install of these test updates have been completed.

Shawn is either a troll or inept.

This OS rocks the hell out of XP. Then again, VISTA was cool to me too.

"How do I get this crap back to XP?" Seriously? Anyone who would ask that, that way, has to be an idiot to think they have any business working with a BETA package of any type.

  5. Posted on: February 20, 2009 at 7:17AM

Dehnger, have you checked the Q&A lately? There seem to be a lot of people who think the beta is just a free trial of Windows 7. The "how do I uninstall this" question is second only to "when will Windows 7 be released" in popularity.

I love Win7! It's really really cool, just as vista is, even though WinXP is very nice but I'll prefer Win7 any day.

I guess Shawn is 1 of those conservatives who find it difficult to change to new things, particularly when they're used to old things.

Goodluck Shawn with your old ways!

I wish my Beta will just turn to the real Win7 come August.

For me windows7 is working just like windows xp and vista, very stable and very fast :)

It is for 100% sure that, when windows7 will be on the market in in the netherlands, i will buy windows7.

I wil even try to buy it on the release day.

Here I am testing windows 7 since it was released, I have a key and I´ve sended a lot of Feedbacks. Is there any controls of them by Microsoft ? on who is sending (by the key or IP or any type of control) or not ?

How they can know who sended more feedbacks ?

I'm quite eager to test these updates because I read somewhere there have been performance improvements to the servicing stack. Hopefully I won't have to see "Please wait while Windows configures updates" upon logoff and logon every time I install an update! It never should have been like that during the Vista time frame. Installing a service pack also shouldn't take close to 45 mins!!

For me it's still Vista, it improved but it's still Vista.  What Microsoft has still failed to address is that people like Shawn9600, really only wanted a Better Windows Xp.  There really two completely separate operating systems.  There is an easy fix for the people who want  a better windows xp.  Just add the Options to make Windows 7's ui look and feel like windows xp.   It would not add that much bloat, but Microsoft still won't do it.  For whatever reason Microsoft will not soften on the FORCED UI changes, again it's just all in the options. Just let people change the UI the way they want to, that is really not wrong, Microsoft just won't do it. Since the early incarnations of Vista Microsoft has dictated what the think windows looks and feels best at. To me they really don't care if you don't like it's just the way they demand it.
