Coming Soon: Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC

Windows XP Mode is specifically designed to help small businesses move to Windows 7. Windows XP Mode provides you with the flexibility to run many older productivity applications on a Windows 7 based PC.

All you need to do is to install suitable applications directly in Windows XP Mode which is a virtual Windows XP environment running under Windows Virtual PC. The applications will be published to the Windows 7 desktop and then you can run them directly from Windows 7.

Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC are best experienced on your new Windows 7 PC. We will be soon releasing the beta of Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC for Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate.

If I buy Windows 7 for my existing XP machine, will I be able to install Windows 7, then use my existing OEM copy of XP for XPM?

Now thats a nice idea. Will help many :)

Professional and Ultimate? Enterprise too, then?

  4. Posted on: April 25, 2009 at 12:53AM

amazing idea but i have a question. will it work on processor without hardware assisted virtualization technology like pentium 4. windows 7 runs flawlessly & speedy on this.

    Nice! this a great step

but i think some people can't understood that when they want to do a few programs under windows xp, maybe they say: why i moved to a new system without a new feature for us!, if win. xp is enough why am i do that!.

maybe you should be thinking like them to make some other solutions!

"Windows XP Mode"? Not quite, only out-of-date Virtual PC I am afraid...

Otherwise, what is the difference between "Windows XP Mode" and VMWare Utility View? Just the fact that you don't have to buy another copy of Windows XP?

OK, this makes sense, sort of...

  7. Posted on: April 25, 2009 at 8:42AM

So now we don't even need Windows 7 we can use Windows XP in VirtualBox in Linux :)) There is no diference.

Great idea, so long as you don't have to buy another XP license, this should help with all those old (but suprisingly recent) Adobe products that Adobe refuses to update for Vista.  Hopefully they will work well enough under this mode so that this feature is useful.

This is also useful given the move to 64bit computing and the need to support legacy 32bit applications.

    Great idea.

Can't wait for the beta of Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC, Im currently running Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 and I would love to give this mode a try.

Will this be available through Connect or some other channel?

'WOULD NOT BUY W7 WITHOUT XP INTERFACE !

    REASON: ease-of-use, efficiency (productivity);

investment in learning, experience, books, software:

availability of resources and information on-line.

NOW CONSIDER improving the XP interface for

ease of use (time motion study for mousing and clicking)

and system efficiency, memory nanagement, etc.
